Corey Brown - Express Way to History
Fri, Feb 10th, 2012

Sydney's fastest horse, Rain Affrair, and champion jockey Corey Brown are ready to answer their critics in Group 2 $200,000 Expressway Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens tomorrow.

Despite Rain Affrair smashing a course record record last start, he still earned mixed reviews. Brown, rated among the nation's top 3 jockey's over the past decade, is his own hareshest critic and has identified areas of his own riding that need improving. So both horse and rider have a point to prove, which doesn't augur well for Rain Affair's  opponents in the feature weight-for-age sprint.

Brown who can claim the Expressway Stakes riding record outright if succesfulon Rain Affair, said he saw more positives than negatives after speed machine won the Carrington Stakes first-up five weeks ago. " I don't know what the critics wanted from Rain Affair but i was still impressed with him that day," Brown said.

THe Joe Pride-trained Rain Affair has won eight of his nine starts, including the last seven in succession. His rare brand of sustained speed makes him one of the most exciting and popular race-horses in training.

Brown is banking on Rain Affair winning and providing him with renewed optimism for the autumn's BMW Sydney Carnival.

Brown to ride Beaded

Brown to ride Beaded in last Group I of season

Top jockey Corey Brown will reunite with gun mare Beaded in the Group I Tattersall’s Tiara (Winter Stakes) over 1400m at Eagle Farm on June 25.

Brown replaces the Kerrin McEvoy, who was ruled out when Racing Queensland stewards suspended the hoop last Saturday over his winning ride on Benfica in the Group I T J Smith at Eagle Farm.

Brown last rode Beaded when the pair combined to win the Doomben 10,000 on May 28 and following the race, the Melbourne Cup-winning jockey paid the mare the ultimate compliment.

"Tough, tough and tougher, that's her,” Brown said. "She’s the toughest horse I’ve ridden.”

Beaded subsequently finished second to Sincero in the Group I Stradbroke Handicap last Saturday.

Spring Carnival
Mon, Oct 18th, 2010

Last year’s ‘King of the spring’ in the jockey ranks, Corey Brown, is aiming for a repeat performance in the coming weeks in Melbourne kicking off at Moonee Valley on Saturday when he returns from suspension.

Twelve months ago, Brown headed to Melbourne with no major commitments in the feature Group Is but ended up taking home the Melbourne Cup with Shocking, Victoria Derby with Monaco Consul and the Emirates Stakes with All American.

“I’ve never gone into a Melbourne spring with a headline horse,” Brown said. “This year I’m going down there with a commitment to ride Melito and I’ll be having a feel of Bauer at some stage in the next seven days.

“I don’t have a commitment to ride Bauer in the Melbourne Cup, but right now, I’ve never been better placed.”

Brown will partner the Gerald Ryan-trained Group I winner in what is shaping as one of the races of the carnival when Melito clashed with the sprinting sensation Hay List, the peoples horse Hot Danish and maybe the unbeaten Black Caviar in the Group II Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

“Her trial was outstanding and she is a genuine Group One sprinter,” Brown said. “Hay List, well he might be a freak, what else can I say, everyone has seen him but I know my mare can compete with Hot Danish.

“The feel I got from Melito tells me she’s going as well as ever so I’m looking forward to Saturday.”

Brown’s Moonee Valley book also consists the Peter Snowden-trained Drumbeats in the Group II Crystal Mile, Shoot Off in the AAMI Vase and Bacchanal Woman in the Tesio.

Jockey Premiership title Hots up
Sun, Jul 4th, 2010

Four winners at Rosehill on Saturday has seen Corey Brown close the gap to three behind Nash Rawiller in the Sydney jockeys premiership.

Brown was at his brilliant best, positioning his mounts perfectly in transit, coming up with four 10 and of 10 rides.

A sentimental highlight for Brown was aboard Back On Top, trained by popular Warwick Farm horseman, Mario Caltibiano.

It was Caltibiano’s first city success since November 2008, when Back On Top was also last in the winners stall.

Brown also scored aboard the promising Triple Elegence for Chris Waller, which required all of his guile to edge out a narrow victory over Counterpane.

His other two winners were secured by Agister and Illuminates.

Brown said his injury enforced layoff earlier this year, when sidelined with a broken shoulder during the autumn carnival had in a roundabout way enhanced his charge for the title.

“You never want to be forced to have a seven week break, but as the season draws to a close a feel fresh and very focused,” he said.

“I’ll just keep chipping away and hopefully at the end of the month I’ll have reeled Nash in.

“But there is no doubt, today has been a beauty.”

Rawiller has 79 wins for the season ahead of Brown’s 76.

Sydney Jockey's Premiership Heating Up
Sun, Jun 20th, 2010

Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Corey Brown is keeping Nash Rawiller honest at the top of the Sydney jockeys' premiership with a winning treble at Rosehill on Saturday.

Brown dodged a bullet early on the program when stewards gave him a stern warning for shortening up Kody Nestor’s mount, Melpomene, in the Lynch Flowers Handicap (1500m).

“You had the whole back straight to get across him, so give him a bit more room next time,” chief steward Ray Murrihy told Brown.

That race was won by Nash Rawiller aboard the Chris Waller-trained First Look and took his season tally of Sydney metro winners to 73.

Brown was quick to answer when he steered the Joe Pride-trained Title to victory in the next race, then made it a running double aboard Triple Elegance in the Champs Café Handicap (1400m).

Triple Elegance’s win gave Chris Waller his second winner of the day.

Brown then made it three when he stormed down the outside aboard the Gerald Ryan-trained Break Card in the Harris Farm Handicap (1200m).

That victory took Brown’s season total to 70, three behind Rawiller who extended his lead to four when he teamed up with Chris Waller to claim the main race of the day, $100,000 Stayers Cup (3200m) with Strike One.
